FARHAD KHOSRAVI

24min   |   English   |  Igal Hecht

Farhad is an Edmonton-based composer, and santur (Persian dulcimer) player, originally from Iran. His album “Sleeping in Sorrow” is an arrangement for santur, voice, violin, cello, and percussion and sheds light on the challenges of victims of child labor. His album was shortlisted for the Edmonton Music Prize in 2017 and nominated for "World Music Recording of the Year" Edmonton Music Awards and "World Artist of the Year" Western Canadian Music Awards in 2018.

While his training has been in Persian classical music, Farhad aims to expand the boundaries of this genre by bringing elements from other genres into his works like instrumentation, harmonies, rhythms, and effects. On Path to Creation, we explore how Farhad’s cultural background leads him into a variety of different musical genres including Indian, Persian, Arabic, and Folk music.
